The American Foxy Dane is a modern cross generally described as combining the Great Dane with an American Foxhound. Unlike established breeds with documented standards and organized historical development, the American Foxy Dane has no widely recognized founding breeder, breed club history, or single documented point of origin. The name is used for dogs with this particular parent combination rather than for a standardized breeding population. Its parent breeds come from very different working traditions. Great Danes were developed primarily in Germany from large hunting and estate dogs, including powerful dogs used historically in boar hunting. American Foxhounds developed in the United States from European pack hounds and were selected for endurance, scenting ability, and long-distance pursuit. A cross can therefore inherit the Great Dane's considerable height and mass alongside the lighter build, stamina, and scenting instincts of the Foxhound. Adult appearance and behaviour are inherently variable because traits do not blend in a predictable or uniform way. Coat colour, body proportions, ear shape, size, prey drive, and energy level depend on the individual dog and its parents. The American Foxy Dane is not recognized as a distinct breed by major traditional kennel clubs and is best understood simply as a relatively uncommon Great Dane-American Foxhound cross.
