The Corgipoo is a modern cross between a Welsh Corgi and Poodle, usually involving a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a Miniature or Toy Poodle. There is no single documented origin or founding breeder, and intentional Corgi-Poodle crosses became more visible as designer dogs grew in popularity during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The parent breeds contribute very different physical and behavioural histories. Corgis were developed as low-set cattle herders capable of moving livestock by working near their heels, while Poodles descend from athletic water retrievers. A Corgipoo may therefore inherit intelligence and considerable energy from both sides. Physical appearance is particularly unpredictable because the parents have substantially different body proportions. Some offspring inherit a noticeably long body and short legs, while others stand taller and look more Poodle-like. Coat texture can range from relatively straight to tightly curled, and shedding varies between individuals. The cross is sometimes promoted as hypoallergenic because of its Poodle ancestry, but this cannot be guaranteed. Major traditional kennel clubs do not recognize the Corgipoo as a distinct breed, and there is no universal standard for size or appearance. It remains primarily a modern companion cross rather than a dog developed around a particular historical job.
